Trading watchdog pays £4m after video firm blunder

The Office of Fair Trading has paid over £4 million in compensation to the founding partners of a video retail company for maladministration.

The OFT has also issued a public apology to Neville Michaelson, 58, the founding chairman of Colorvision plc, and his brother Bernard, 63, the former director.

The company was the fourth largest video retail company in Britain before the OFT threatened, through an announcement to the stock exchange, to revoke its consumer credit licences in 1995.
