Ah, but there is a significant difference: the private sector pays for it's screw-ups with their money, not money they have stolen from me at gunpoint.

Companies commonly screw up. If they screw up badly enough, they go bankrupt. OK.

How many separate funding actions were their to 'get it right'. I wouldn't believe for a second that there was one contract action, that went from $n to 20*$n.
Then you're wrong. There was one. This was the software segment. They had 2 guys who knew zilch about software do that software estimate. Why? Beats me.

How many of those subsequent funding increments were you personally involved in?
Zero. Zilch. Nada. None. By the grace of ???, I managed to escape any involvement in any proposals or estimates on this disaster.
