Limtex-->>Q will sell more units but their bite per unit is probably less than MSFTs and the replacment cycle is going to be longer since it seems ot me that once yuo've got a 1X pda/cellhpone why change it?<<

This issue was discussed at the analyst meeting. QCOM pointed out that because of the new features in the high end chips--specifically the MSM 6500--the average price of a phone was INCREASING, and with it the royalties. Also, they showed data indicating that the replacement market for upgrades is much stronger than had been anticipated earlier, compensating for a lower growth rate in NEW subscribers in mature markets. Thus, without giving specific figures on total unit shipments and total subscribers, they indicated that the product mix would result in higher revenues and net income. I think they had a slide on this point, and when I get enough time, I'll look at the CD they gave us and try to find a way of sending the file or the info in the file.

1X is for the most part a relacement sale and once sold I wonder what the replacement cycle will be with 1X handsets.</>

L, you touch on a good point, unless 1X proves to be the catalyst for market share gains I don't hold much excitement about 1X. As an investor all I care about does 1X allow and facilatate the stealing of customers from all the so called idiot carriers who are not going 1X. So far I have only heard a whisper of it from KDDI. VZ seems to be shooting itself in the head with 1X.
I'll wait on Sprint to see if they can make a difference with 1X.
Korea doesn't count cause all carriers are 1X, no head to head competition.
If there is ever going to be a chance that carriers are going to favor CDMA or GSM1X over other technologies, 1X must prove to the CEOs of the other carriers that it is effecting their bottomline in a big way by not going 1X. That means they need to start seeing a loss in subscribers!
That's the only language they understand.

Good article in this week's Business week about the 3G Bubble/Fiasco in Euroland.
