I think your Iraq/Iran suspicions are overblown, but I'd support at least Iraq (Iran has a good number of tentacles out searching for "acceptance"...remember Libya, since they are moving closer to becoming part of the everyday world from their old position).

I agree on the assessment of why the information is released. Bush's team doesn't want any more second guessing. Guess what? It won't matter. You can't stop this stuff in any meaningful way without a dictatorship, and even that won't stop it (it would make it worse, in some ways).

Fact is, most industrialized nations have gone through this sort of terror alert thing for years. They haven't suffered as a result. We just have to adapt to the fact that we are no longer as immune as we once were.

Life is always lived on a precipice. That doesn't stop it from going along...

BTW, I prefer "I have met the enemy and it is us."
