If FS had been early 2001, it took them about 15 months to bring up pong If you remember, pong was the 64 bit part of the demo. What would you suggest AMD demo, given that at that time no OS developers had the real hardware, so they couldn't run Windows or Linux on it? Any idea how much wasted effort it would be to try get a real-world app running in 64 bit mode when you don't have a working OS? What impresses me is that they now have XP/64 and IE/64 up and running at a show. The system is looking solid.

AMD has been developing the hammer ALONG side the 0.13 SOI process. Who know what the bottle neck was, the process or the design. There is no official description as to what constitutes a "first tape out". AMD has been processing silicon relating to the hammer project since late 1999. Of course it was nothing close to piece that could execute instructions. Mani
