Many of the attendees I spoke to seemed quite knowledgeable on the technical side. Others seemed pretty much indifferent. It's hard for me to tell whether most were concerned only about earnings guidance or whether they were prepared to accept the strong economics related to the technology.

Given that there was virtually no movement in the stock, and that the stock performed in line with other technology stocks for the remainder of the week, I'd say that there was little impact from the main points that the QCOM officers were making. Here are some of the key points that didn't seem to have any effect on stock price:

1. We are making handset chips for low, medium, and high end users and getting them ready for sampling and production on time. Others are having trouble just getting a single chip on the market.

2. The RadioOne technology is crucial for making a low price chip that has all these new features, and also crucial for making a low price chip that won't drain the batteries too fast. We can offer a single chip that does everything the service provider wants, without requiring the service provider to add any other components to enhance performance.
(Comment: This seemed to be over the heads of many.)

3.The future for growth in mature markets is data, not voice applications. These will provide a great deal of profit in the form of connect time charges on BREW applications and a growing number of Internet users switching to wireless.

4. A new 7000 series of chips is currently under development.
