The India-Pakistan tension has interesting implications for the US.

The Indians do seem to have a real claim against the Pakistanis for harboring, aiding, and training Kashmiri terrorists. This makes it difficult for the US to support or defend Pakistan. Siding or seeming to side with India, on the other hand could easily result in a fundamentalist backlash that could unseat the current government and install a much more intractable one.

It is important to make some effort to defuse a situation that could become a nuclear confrontation, but it will have to be delicately done. I'm curious to see how it's going to be handled.
