Some people re-balance their portfolios into low equity percentages in September and sit on cash for a few months. Particularly in an already crappy market. What can I say — I'm superstitious about market Octobers. I did the same thing last year, and three of the last five. He may have an alternative reason that we don't know about, just like nobody knows why I do my October Avoidance Liquidation in early/mid-September. He picked a Bad Day. September has about 15 of those to choose from.

I've always thought the dude was a king-size jerk, but I don't buy what's being implied with this 9/11 stuff. Maybe his kids pissed him off on the 9th and he decided to axe their college fund the next day. Maybe his broker jerked him over an 1/8th point and he picked a Really Bad Day to move the account. Heck, if I know. Simply could be some other reason. People do weird stuff for weird reasons. BTW, I also alphabetize my CD and DVD collections in December. You don't even wanna hear about about my garden seed ritual in February.
