Jim, re: Now, will "Thoroughly-dead" be on POS (plain 'ole Silicon) or SOI?... Seems I've read where it may never get to SOI...

TBred was never scheduled for SOI... but Barton was until early this year.

Re: will "Thoroughly-dead" be on POS (plain 'ole Silicon) or SOI?...

Intel has nothing but POS, as you call it, until 2004 or 2005 - they were quite late learning that they'd need it. Probably because they were so late in gaining any real world experience with copper.

AMD has guaranteed itself a huge process advantage for all of 2003 and most or all of 2004.

Intel is also stuck without the right products to produce, even if they did anything better than a POS process coming in the next 2 years. With their 64-bit chip a total disaster, and their 32-bit chip about to be "286'd", they've painted themselves into a corner...
