In a detention hearing, the question is, does the defendant pose a flight risk or is he at risk of threatening witnesses. Hearsay evidence is often presented and I am aware of instances where the government fabricated evidence in an attempt to keep the defendant in jail. Often the real motivation is not to prevent a defendant from fleeing, but to put the squeeze on him to cooperate in an investigation of others.

In this case, I suspect the "hot" targets are the former and current FBI Special Agents who are under indictment. The FBI has more than a few piles of doo doo lying around the Hoover Building, and this latest embarrassment doesn't help. They have to clean house and the best way to do so in this case is to come down hard on the two agents.

Anthony won't get off, but I don't doubt that as we discuss this, the pressure is being applied to cooperate and provide testimony against the agents. That's the real reason why he's in jail this weekend.
