what really amazes me is how many folks do not realize that the nasdaq dropped from over 5,000 to under 2500 while clinton was still in office. clinton gets credit for economic prosperity even though the country's stock markets were plunging during his tenure.

Shhh, don't tell anyone that at 1,700 the NAZ is still overvalued. People that measure 'prosperity' of the US based on the value of the NAZ without consideration of the average P/E ratio are pretty simple.

it is hard to explain the rich part to the folks in the central Carolinas who are now faced with one of the highest manufacturing unemployment rates in the country after all the jobs floated overseas.

Factory owners and mill owners used to be in the Northeast, but moved to the Southeast for cheaper labor costs. When labor costs in the Southeast got higher, the factory owners and mill owners moved the same jobs overseas.

The jobs did not belong to them, they belonged to the factory owner. If they want jobs, they need to build their own factories and compete with overseas labor costs by being more efficient, or else get into another line of work.

If you buy your clothes without looking for the "Made in the USA" label and looking for the Union label, you should not complain.

Anyone who shops at WalMart should not complain about all the jobs going overseas.

I will bet you dollars to donuts that almost all of the people who are complaining about losing their jobs bought the cheapest they could. It's human nature.

Union leaders that strove for higher wages were short sighted. The smart thing to have asked for was a share of ownership in the business, and rewards for efficiency instead of seniority. If they had owned a portion of the business, they could have voted against relocation. Or maybe they would have voted for relocation because it was in their own best interest.

In other words, they should have asked for dividends instead of wages.

Unfortunately, most labor unions are socialistic, and anti-capitalist. They sow the seeds of their own destruction.
