Kinross Gold Corp - In the News

Globe says Haywood sees upside in Kinross, others

Kinross Gold Corp K
Shares issued 357,862,955 May 21 2002 close $3.830
Wednesday May 22 2002 In the News
The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday editionthat a recent study from Haywood Securities says gold bugs will find thebiggest upside in firms like Kinross Gold and smaller producers such as RioNarcea Gold Mines, Eldorado Gold and Miramar Mining. The Globe's Allan Robinsonwrites that M. Murenbeeld & Associates, the publisher of Gold Monitor, says the current $305 (U.S.) to $310 (U.S.) price for an ounce of gold isin "a very defensible range," making the prospects of a significant declinein the price of gold unlikely. Background factors such as weak stock andbond performance, the possibility of higher oil prices and the threat ofa "a mini trade war brewing" as Japan announces tariffs on steel are allfactors favourable for gold, says Gold Monitor. Maison Placements analystJohn Ing, Eric Sprott of Sprott Asset Management and John Hathaway of ToquevilleAsset Management are calling for gold to go to $500 (U.S.) an ounce. Analystssay the decision by gold mining companies to unwind their hedge positionsincreases the demand for gold and that any improvement in global economieswill increase demand at a time when some expect mine production will decline.
