Actually, although we assured the administrator that we would talk to him, and did not challenge the (1 day)suspension, it was all I could do not to laugh in her face. Not only was it a gross over- reaction, but I knew she had made him a martyr to rally around. And yes, the cheers gladdened my heart. The funny thing is, my son had no idea that he had become such a figure in his class, even though he had gotten a lot of pats on the back for the incident, and for his comic turn in this year's musical, and had been voted Most Likely to Win a Grammy by his class.

He did not set out to be popular, or a student leader, mostly preferring his projects at home. His main activity was chorus, although he was a leader there, and got most of the male solos the last couple of years. Since it was not sports, he tended to discount it. I tried to explain how it might be adding up, but he didn't believe me. Thus, he was really flying with happiness and excitement after graduation.......
