I have never made it to Pasadena, but I have wanted to see the Huntington, certainly. I am not acquainted with the collections of the Norton Simon. I had always admired Diebenkorn's work, but the retrospective was an eye- opener.(He used to drive to the Phillips when he was in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk). Not only are his representational paintings exceptionally vivid, but he has done some of the finest hard- edged abstraction I have ever seen. The only problem with showing them at the Phillips was that one sometimes had to be in an adjoining room to stand at the correct distance to see them, since the canvasses are so large. I am much less familiar with recent Latin American art, although I have run across some from time to time.
