May 28, 2002 (ITNews.com.au - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The gross margins of Australian distributors of computer products are falling due to price discounts introduced by Tech Pacific in early 2002. To make the matter worse, distributors are faced with the prospect of poor sales in the second half of 2002. Ingram Micro was forced to cut its staff numbers in response to diminishing margins. Digiland chose to market its products aggressively in hope of gaining in volume what was lost in margins. George Skaf, general manager for commodities at Digiland, said that Hewlett-Packard products were affected the most by discounting.
