I am not unwilling to believe that God plays fair by his/her/its rules. But I have no sense at all that God should play fair by OUR rules. Human standards of fairness have evolved significantly over the centuries, and will continue to evolve. At one time, it was fair to enslave the women and children of a conquered people. Today that isn't fair. Are we to say that God was fair then in allowing such practices, and fair now in disallowing them, so that God's standards have to change to comply with ours?

It was once fair to stone adulterous women. In some cultures today it still is; in most it isn't. Where is God on this, if the same behavior can be deemed fair by some people and unfair by others?

Personally, I find the common assumption that God's notions of fairness should comport with ours to be not only arrogant, but quite silly.
