LOL. I am making a little list of all the hopeful phrases we have encountered over the last two years. It is fascinating to me to see how a slope of hope is maintained. I am not poking fun here; it really fascinates me. I'll start the list and would appreciate any additions the posters here can add. I will repost the entire list when we've got something. Try to remember when the hope was being voiced so we end up with a timeline. Hope: Baby boomers will rush in. When: Mostly the fall summer/fall of 2000 I think. Hope: Election cycle and a republican win. When: Fall of 2000. Hope: Cash on the sidelines will go to equities. When: all periods Hope: A falling dollar is good for exporters. When: Summer/2001 and again now. Hope: It was only a tech-wreck. When: Since spring of 2001 Hope: Rydex is overly bearish. When: Winter, 2001/2002 Hope: This is only an inventory correction. When: Summer 2001? Hope: P/E's don't matter When: all periods Hope: This is a new era in the VIX When: Winter, 2001/2002 Hope: The consumer will bail us out. When: all periods Hope: Hedge funds are now too popular. Must be a bottom. When: now Hope: Real-estate can keep going up. When: all periods Hope: We may never see inflation again. When: all periods There are so many others, but this is a start.
