Novellus Raises 2nd-Qtr Profit Forecast to 8c-Share (Update2)
By John Stebbins

San Jose, California, May 28 (Bloomberg) -- Novellus Systems Inc., whose equipment builds circuits in semiconductors, said second-quarter earnings will exceed forecasts as cost reductions boost profitability.

Profit will fall to 8 cents a share, compared with an April 15 forecast for 6 cents, the company said on a conference call with analysts and investors. Novellus reiterated that revenue will drop to $220 million, Treasurer Robin Yim said in an interview.

Novellus shares slipped after the call because the company didn't give a third-quarter forecast, said Frederick Wolf, an analyst at Adams, Harkness & Hill. Investors were expecting a more optimistic outlook after Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International said the industry's April book-to-bill ratio rose to 1.20. It was the second straight month that orders beat shipments.

Saw on another thread a little something for the stairstep workers, wherever they may be on vacation. "the cup is half full and showing signs of cracking".

AMAT YoYo Demo --- What am I doing here? Didn't I know the end is near. War everywhere, AMAT going to the 10s, to zero! Why am I plunging myself in the path of disaster still buying when everybody else are scampering to safety?

Maybe because I got it in my Gene to live and invest dangerously.

I came from a kind of people who are leaving their country now at the all time high of 2,748 persons a day ( or over a million a year) to work abroad. Whether they go right into the heart of the Battlefield doesn't matter. They can't bear to see their children cry because they can't go to college for being poor. Finishing college is the childrens' only hope of getting a job later at home or abroad (in contrast, Filipino parents here in the US are the ones crying when their children don't want to go to college because there are so many McDonalds around).

Why am I still buying at 22 and lower? Maybe because when AMAT goes back to 27 I don't want to cry for missing the chance of buying cheaply at 22.
