Claude Cormier was talking about doing something similar.

I think any government could make a pretty good case that this is a form of unlawful currency that infringes the government's sovereign right to issue money. If governments can make ownership of gold illegal, it surely should not be hard to make this illegal (conducting transactions denominated in gold instead of "lawful money").
