What else was there?

A lot of stockholders holding the bag.

I recall that when VV made its investment, some insiders, not just Russell, sold some shares at $90 per share (later and below (from the June 30, 1999 10-Q), adjusted to $45 to reflect a 2:1 split):

"Vulcan entered into a Management Agreement with each director of the Company pursuant to which Vulcan agreed to purchase 2,806,624 shares of Common Stock from the directors of the Company, three of whom are executive officers of the Company, at a price of $45.00 per share."

See March 19, 1999 filings for events of March 15, 1999.

That was $126,298,000, mostly to guess who.
