I always spelled it folderol (and I use it so frequently, as I'm sure you've noticed)
but I see it has two spellings, folderol and falderal.

My mother always said "Well, folderol and fiddledeedee" in a fake Scarlett O'Hara voice when she thought I was acting pretentious.

my dad used to say that to us when we were little when we would horse around...

My father used to say that, too, under the same circumstances. I always took it to mean that I should sit down and shut up, so I inferred that the word meant "commotion." Incorrectly, as it turns out. Learned something today. Not something particularly useful, but still...
