Thanks for the input Bob. (I think I spent more time deliberating on this than my last car!)

Just in case you're interested, I went with a GeForce 3 Ti200 64MB because:

1) It was a little more expensive than the Matrox
but had double the onboard memory.

2) The CNET benchmark tests showed that the 2D
performance of the GF2 was marginally better
than the Matrox so I figure, the GF3 has to be
THAT much better.

3) The GeForce 3 has video in/out and the machine
may have to do some video editing.

The machine I'm putting together will be manipulating very large images (applying filters and using many layers). I don't think the computer will ever see a game.

I'll see how it goes and I may have to purchase another machine in the near future. That one will definitely have a Matrox (the G-550 or maybe the Parhelia-512) so I can finally put the argument to rest in my head.
