RtS, the glass is half full because Intel said >"One thing that's different here is we're seeing aggressive production yields," said Intel spokesman Robert Manetta. "Our investments over the last couple of years are really starting to pay dividends."< So now the others will feel even more pressure to upgrade their fabs.

This article has detail on the price cuts

Joe Osha at Merrill:
- cut his estimate for Q2 to $6.76B little changed from Q1 of $6.78B. Osha trimmed his second-quarter earnings per share estimate by one penny to 17 cents.

Analysts forecast Intel would earn 15 cents a share in the second quarter, within a range of 14 cents to 17 cents, on revenue of $6.67 billion, according to Thomson First Call.

So his estimates were too bullish, beyond the range of everyone else. It's not like the world is coming to an end.

Hi RtS,

What seems lost in this aggressive market share winning tactic is that Mr Osha was about the highest earnings estimate out there and he trimmed it a whopping penny.

I view the yield story and payback from their huge investment as the real story - but the market wants to take the negative road.

I'm ok with that - I hoped to buy Intel bacl @ 28.I did and scalped a little profit after rolling out at 34.I'm thinking 26.50 will be revisited (recent low) and then Q2 might confirm what a powerhouse Intel really is.Intel has an uncanny way of double dipping - watching 26.50 and 23.50 real close - mortgage the house @ 19.50.

I remember 23.50 was a resistance until 9/11 dropped price to 19 1/2. I was lucky enough to buy 3000 shares @19.50 - man if only I could re visit that entire trip from 19 1/2 to 34 on a second round trip.I'm still dreaming this a.m..

I'm not sure I'm that patient.gg
