I guess I presented it on the basis that even in the worst bear market there is a widely accepted belief (and egged on by analysts) that there is some kind of divine protection in the "leaders" and hence people will continue to average down over and over again ...current examples that come to mind are... ORCL and SUNW....the angst of single digits is still not powerful enough to drown out that last hope.

I do see your point though and perhaps it needs to be re-worded....

How about the "Stocks have passed from weak hands to strong hands" theory. Maria was touting that veiw in the fall of 2000 I believe. It was widely used in the 29 crash also.
