That's not as bad as it sounds, particularly on a mobile chip that can garner a higher ASP. Increasing the die size increases the area of thermal dissipation, = better cooling.

If you get these chips too small...where's the contact area for the heatsink?

Sure. My point, which seems to have gotten lost, is that if AMD actually uses UMC for a significant number of chips, then they have gained a lot of market share. Unless there is some problem at Dresden, that is.
