Semiconeng,

Re: " ... it is most unlikely that UMC is using the same Process Equipment that AMD
is using for that Process Development up to this point. Converting a Process to
a different set of tools, while at the same time transferring it to a different
location, is a bitch.... take my word for it."

Oh, I doubt Combjelly will take your word for it ... After all, he's "pretty
solid in the sciences". <ggg>

Make It So,
Yousef

"If anyone thinks that UMC will let AMD "use UMC's equipment", they"re dreaming."

All I know is what was said at the press conference. "We will gain immediate access to an existing 300mm wafer fab for research and development activities"

jc-news.com
I dunno, it seems to be the terms of the agreement, what do you think?

"The problem with this from a Process Engineering Standpoint, is that it is most unlikely that UMC is using the same Process Equipment that AMD is using for 0.13u up to this point."

You are correct. Which is why the development is for the 65nm node. I am sure they will reach some type of agreement on the exact equipment used.

"I can't even begin to list the what if's, could be's, assumings..... and Unless's you used..."

Uh huh. Considering that I don't really know what AMD's bin splits, yields, production level, sales level and the size of the market now, I am supposed to be certain about what will be happening in 12 months? Really? That is a startling assertion...

UMC is a Foundry - they'll let anyone use their equipment.

Try to pay attention.
