A Few Notes on the Stack--the worlds largest smoke stack.

The Smelter Smoke Stack is 585' 1" high, with a base outside diameter of 86',
an inside base diameter of 75' 4", with the inside top diameter measuring 60'.
The walls are 5' 4" thick, and its volume is 2,131,225 cubic feet.
The 5000 cubic foot concrete base forms a truncated octagonal pyramid
and contains 20,491 sacks of cement.
The stack has 2,466,392 bricks approximately equal
to 6,672,214 common 2"x4"x8" bricks.
It has a capacity of 3 million cubic feet of hot gasses
mixed with 1 million cubic feet of cooling air per minute.
It used 64 million gallons of water per day,
and consumed 4.8 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The plant covered 261 acres.
The first smoke appeared May 5th, 1919.
