Taipei, May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Quanta Computer Inc., Taiwan's biggest maker of notebook computers, denied an Economic Daily News report that cited Chairman Barry Lam as saying the company expects to generate more overseas income than any other company in China.

Lam didn't meet with officials of the State Council, China's cabinet, last week as the report described, Quanta spokesman Tim Li said in a statement.

``Chairman Barry Lam was in Taiwan last week and didn't address State Council officials,'' he said.

Quanta's first-quarter profit rose 21 percent from a year earlier to NT$.3.1 billion after customers such as Apple Computer Inc. and Dell Computer Corp. placed more orders.

The shares of Quanta fell as much as NT$4.5, or 4.2 percent, to NT$103.
