TOKYO, May 29 Asia Pulse - After posting a record year-on-year decline in 2001, global semiconductor shipments will likely grow slightly in 2002, increasing 2.3 per cent on the year to US$142.1 billion, the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics reported Tuesday.
While only China and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, are forecast to see shipments increase in 2002, the gains are expected to buoy global totals.

Shipments from the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, are seen increasing by 25.7 per cent, while shipments from North and South America are expected to fall by 3.7 per cent, European shipments by 0.1 per cent, and Japanese shipments by 7 per cent.

Global shipments of metal-oxide semiconductor memory are seen increasing 10.2 per cent on the year to US$27.4 billion. Within that, DRAM shipments are projected to climb 44.3 per cent to US$16.1 billion.
