re: CONCEPT - WLAN segment

the more I do research here the better I like the whole bundle of companies adressing it. This is THE HOT SPOT of growth and some people see it resurrecting the means of BWA (Broadband wireless access) in the unlicensed domain.

This might be the force with which technologists will utlimately suceed in prying open the last mile from the hands of those telcos. It adheres to a bottom-up concept that made the Internet what it is now - in contrast to the politbuereau like "central planning" approach of the former telecom monopolits ("Top-down"). It will be a powerful tool to stand in the way of any "forced bundle" of content and connectivity that users might not want (say hello cable industry !) and it also will be a "component" to augment a 2G or 2.5G wireless system and give the resulting amalgamation 3G capabilities. And it's here now, it's faster (11-50 Mbit instead of 1Mbit), it's unlicensed - can't be monopolized and it's built on open standards.

In my view WLANs and ISPs (with fiber infrastructure) are the building blocks of nexgen telcos. In such a case ILECs will be having a hard time and finally will have to deploy FTTH or be quashed. The voice part of local phone service is NOT growing at all. It's flat. If the techno-elite chooses to stay in unmetered-non bell territory and subsequently moves into WLANs en masse then there's no growth driver for them. It will force ILEC strategists back to the drawing board. This might be a boon to IXCs and maybe also the surviving CLECs..

In the meantime, buy WLAN related stocks. I found PROX and MLIN for the moment. ISIL is the chip leader here but its valuation is beyong what I'm willing to spend. The WLAN equipment market is growing 15-25% per QUARTER right now. Stay tuned and enjoy the fun !!
