I see commentary on what I perceive to be wrong headed self serving rationalizations of an untenable position. 'Course that's just my opinion....

What you see as rationalizations of an untenable position, I see as discussions of nuances and peripheral issues.

Picture a jury room. The members recognize as a given that the defendant is guilty of the main charge and he's going down. As part of their deliberations, though, they discuss secondary charges, motives, extenuating circumstances. Maybe they even discuss whether the judge wears a rug or the prosecutor's skirt is too short. A few members get worried that others are flagging in their commitment to a guilty verdict and accuse them of supporting the defendant every time they mention the prosecutor's skirt, which really is too short or the judge's hair, which really is a bad rug. That's what I perceive.

'Course that's just my opinion...
