My reservation is that UMC and TMSC do not have a history of producing fast chips. So how UMC is going to get from 800MHz or so max. to 2GHz or so, isn't very clear to me.

It's not clear to me either. They're not going to tweak their process just for AMD.

Isn't it the other way around? I figure that with UMC, AMD has to depend on someone else for their manufacturing, rather than themselves. And you know what they say: "if you want something done right, ..."
