Thomas T. Depends on what you read and whom you believe. The American intelligence does not say it is "freedom struggle" On the contrary it says that Pakistan is sending terrorists across the border.

Religion does not make a country. If that was so then Bangladesh (former East Pakistan) would not have seceded from Pakistan (former West Pakistan) after 25 years of its formation. Both East and West Pakistan were Muslim majority. But they realized there are other factors besides mere religious beliefs that go into the formation of a country. So to say that Kashmir is majority Muslim and hence has to part of Muslim Pakistan is not true. The Chief Minister of Kashmir, which is a elected position is and always has been a Muslim. The Muslims there have reservations to become Pakistan. They prefer to be free and share in the relative prosperity and secularism of India.

If it was people's movement in Kashmir then you would not have Sheikh Omar, a Pakistani citizen, who masterminded Daniel Pearl's death, in custody in India. What was he doing there?
