Not really. The whole point was AMD using UMC to supplement production. Dresden is currently making and selling somewhere around 5 million processors a quarter on 0.18 micron. When they switch to 0.13 micron, that number should go up. If it doesn't go up due to lack of demand, then they probably won't be outsourcing to UMC. If it goes up and there is more demand than they can satisfy, then UMC gets orders. I really don't see what is wild about that. But I guess you have a different opinion.

The numbers and speculation was to examine what outsourcing would mean in the context of 90nm production. If you don't agree with the numbers, fine. If you feel that you have better guesses, and given your background you probably do, feel free to share them. For what it is worth, I suspect that AMD won't be outsourcing a lot. But who knows?
