Cisco Is Top Seller of Telecom Gear, Researcher Says (Update1)

Phoenix, June 3 (Bloomberg) -- Cisco Systems Inc. sold the most telecommunications equipment worldwide in the first quarter, beating European rivals Siemens AG, Ericsson AB and Alcatel SA for its first time atop the list, a market researcher said.

Cisco, Siemens, Nortel Networks Corp. and Lucent Technologies Inc. gained market share during the quarter, Phoenix-based Synergy Research Group Inc. said. Alcatel and Ericsson lost share.

San Jose, California-based Cisco, already the world's largest maker of computer-networking equipment, sold $3.69 billion of communication gear in the first quarter, or 13 percent of the $28.5 billion market. Last quarter, Cisco's share was 11.2 percent....
