STMicro affirms 10% sequential growth estimate for Q2

GENEVA--STMicroelectronics today reaffirmed its guidance for a 10% sequential increase in second-quarter revenues from $1.36 billion in Q1. The European chip maker also said its gross margin for the second quarter is expected to be in a range of 200-to-300 basis points above the 33.4% reported in Q1.

ST's gross profit in the first quarter was $452 million, a slight decline from $459.5 million in Q4 of 2001. With Q1 revenues sequentially dropped 6.4%, the company posted a net income of $32.9 million compared to $45 million in the final quarter of last year (see April 22 story).
