The best argument against dropping the Bomb isn't so much that it shouldn't have been used, but that dropping it on populated areas without warning was unnecessary to bring about the desired effect of making invasion unnecessary.

If they had turned an uninhabited area or lightly populated area of Japan into a nuclear waste zone and then suggested that the cities were next, many fewer people might have died.

The choice was not between slaughtering innocent children, or risking American boys in an invasion. They did indeed decide not to invade. The question was simply: did they need to burn up all those civilians? Was the only alternative to invasion the testing of atomic power on human flesh. Of course, it was not.

Japan was surrounded, and isolated from food and fuel. The Americans DID decide not to invade. They chose a different course. They chose atomic bombs. This sent a message to Russia...fine...but what if these were your kids dying for absolutely nothing? They had atomic bombs, so they obviously did not need to invade Japan. They had countless options. But Russia was moving; Russia had no conscience; and Japan needed to be taught a lesson. Unfortunately, it was not baby boys and girls who flew over Pearl Harbour. Killing them did not bring justice. It brought ignominy and shame. It was curb stomping. It has been done by all countries. If there is such a thing as human decency, then some country must take a stand as to what constitutes fair play and justice...
