Yes this is true except for those that were kingdoms and had kings. The British after they colonized India retained the kings and kept paying them a yearly sum. !50 years later, when the British were quitting, they left it to the kings to decide which country they wanted to merge with.

The creation of Pakistan itself was based on the theory that religious beliefs alone could form a country. What people forgot then was that another fundamental value which holds a nation together is a set of common values. And that is why East Pakistan broke away from West Pakistan after 25 years in spite of both those having a Muslim majority population.

And it is a mess out there in Pakistan. The govt. it seems has lost control. Taliban and Al-Qaeda are moving around freely. And Musharraf is under a constant threat for his life. The CIA is working overtime to protect his life.
