A third party company (that sells such information) examined AMD's 1.2GHZ Athlon and Intel's 1.5GHZ P4 and found that they both had 90nm measured gate lengths. I've posted the links to this thread many times, but don't have them handy right now.

It's interesting that, at that time, Intel was claiming larger gate lenghts, while AMD was claiming smaller gate lengths - probably because a gate can be measured at several points.

But when the same team measured the two chips, they found nearly identical gate lengths.
