STOCK ALERT - Taiwan DRAM makers higher on inventory build-up-related demand
-- AFX - Asia, 5/30/2002

Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) makers were higher
amid demand related to inventory build-up from memory distributors, dealers
said.

Powerchip Semiconductor was limit-up 1.20 twd at 18.60 on volume of 32.41
mln shares, Nanya Technology up 1.10 at 32.40 on 23.90 mln shares, Winbond
Electronics up 0.70 at 19.70 on 14.80 mln shares, Mosel Vitelic up 0.45 at 11.55
on 22.59 mln shares and ProMOS Technologies up 0.70 at 20.60 on 7.95 mln shares.

"Some distributors placed orders yesterday, powering the rebound in DRAM
spot prices in the late afternoon and driving share prices higher today," IBT
Securities deputy manager Wang Chum-yuan said.

"The build-up was based on speculation rather than solid demand from
downstream... distributors are pinning their hopes on an easing of pressure on
DRAM prices as any quarter-end dumping by Micron Technology should be coming to
an end."

In addition, there were hopes that Micron may reconsider the deal with Hynix
deal, he added.
