LightRiver Technologies to Work with Both Companies Installing Next-Generation Optical Systems
MURRAY HILL, N.J., May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Edison Carrier Solutions, a regional "carrier's carrier" based in Southern California, will be the first service provider in the United States to commercially deploy the LambdaUnite(TM) MultiService Switch (MSS), a next-generation optical system from Lucent Technologies as part of an end-to-end solution, the companies said today.
The Lucent solution, which also includes the Metropolis® DMX Access Multiplexer platform as well as software and services, will allow Edison Carrier Solutions, which serves the wholesale telecommunications market, to provide services on a common backbone, thus increasing capacity while helping to reduce equipment and power costs as well as space requirements in a crowded central office environment.

It provides a bridge between data-intense metro networks and high-speed optical core networks, connecting cities, campuses and corporate networks to larger, long-haul public networks. Metropolis® DMX, which is part of Lucent's Metropolis portfolio of metro optical networking products, provides next-generation SONET capabilities. It is an integrated SONET/Ethernet metro access multiplexer that, working together with LambdaUnite(TM) MSS, will enable Edison Carrier Solutions to cost-effectively meet its current metro access needs while providing a solid foundation for future bandwidth and service growth.
