The monthly Treasury report for April shows tax revenues of $237.4 billion, or roughly 27 percent lower than for April 2001 ($331 billion). After seven months of Fiscal Year 2002, the government shows a deficit of $66.5 billion, as opposed to a $165 billion surplus at the same juncture last year.
