Nonsense? The political fortunes of the Administration directly affect its ability to conduct foreign policy, including military activities. When the issue is legitimate and unavoidable, and especially when it is relatively modest, the Administration must take its chances. But when it is subject to demogogic attack, calculated to severely wound it, then there is something very wrong with those responsible (or should I say irresponsible?). We are fielding troops on a non- routine mission, where the cooperation of several states matters to its success, and where the prestige of the Administration, and its perceived freedom of action, will have a marked impact on collateral issues, like the turmoil in Israel, or the attempt to get Saddam to allow further inspections.........
