And, by the way, I think I have my taxes on capital gains prepaid through 2050.

A good friend of ours recently commented that his taxable account is for all practical purposes no longer a taxable account.

True, though I think he was talking about replacing a position in which he had capital gains.

Yes, he was. I just thought it might be good to also mention a somewhat similar situation, where US rules do involve a basis adjustment and deferral of tax deduction.
