Petz, AMD has already said why. Validation of server systems by OEMS is a lot longer than desktops so AMD said they want to give their OEMs time to do what's needed. They also said that they just don't have the resources to do 2 launches at the same time. Now, they may be sandbagging and since they can already do a full speed demo I say go for it and release everything at once. Don't give Intel a chance to one-up them again....

Petz, Re: AMD 4-way Systems at Computex FULL SPEED

The way I understand this news bit there will be one system running at full speed speed but it isn't disclosed what system that might be. My guess is that it is a single CPU Clawhammer system. I don't think AMD has working 4-ways systems (read: Sledgehammers) at full-speed -- especially not after that what was said in that leaked memo.

Petz, re: "How fast is "full speed?"

I am not clear that this is all that astounding. If the current products run reliably at for example 1 GHz and they show the demo at 1 GHz wouldn't this be full speed? I am not sure it implies the CPUs are capable of the full target release speed. I would also hope that over the next six months AMD could wring a bit more speed through design and process tweaks. JMHO.

I also see that this could be taken to mean that there are no features disabled to allow for stable operation. A 4-way system is a landmark for AMD either way and I am interested to see how well the system scales -- though I don't have a lot to compare it with. <g>
