Just about everyone else on this thread thinks that it's an absolute certainty that Hammer will rule the server market, and that Itanium will be thrown out with yesterday's trash. Even a mention that this might not be true is met with harsh criticism - that's how convinced people are! Intel has the guts to publish Itanium scores because they have a product to sell. AMD must rely on hype because apparently the truth wouldn't do as good a job. EP

If IA-64 is merely "competitive", then there's been no return on the (substantial) investment. I don't find that impressive. Intel already has a more than competitive CPU; it doesn't need another one. What's the Itanium's reason for being?
