wbmw, has anyone seen how Oracle performs on Itanic and/or Itanic2? Who cares about Spec? I want to see real apps and how they do. If Oracle runs faster on Sun that's what business will keep on buying. Software is what drives hardware purchases not the other way around. I know of a large shop that moved to Oracle running on Intel/NT ( they used to be on Sun/Solaris ) to cut costs and after a year of weekly reboots they went back to solaris/Sun. I don't know if it was Nt's fault or the Intel's platform's fault but the Sun system was way more stable and faster also.

wbmw, re: "Are you telling me that if it sells 100K and takes 10% of Sun's high end market share in the first year of after its launch, that it will be a failure?"

I was simply noting that an article in Fortune indicated Sun sold 1M CPU/year in response to your query on other processor sales numbers. I made and have no opinion on what level of Itanium sales would constitute success or failure.

Wanna_b, Re: <TGPTNDR was saying that less than 200k McKinley sales this year would mean that it's a failure.>

Link, Please?

What I said, in response to your question what would you say was "If Itanic II sails(sic) it'll do way over 200K. If it sinks, it won't.

I would say the jury is still out.

What would you say?"

How many of those turds do you think Intel'll sell?
