Interesting quote. Typical example of a politician's disjointed thinking (i.e., he transposed the Veep's public comments with Bush's... when, in fact, Bush has not publicly said these things).

On the other hand, it is quite common for ALL President's (rightly or wrongly) to be held 'responsible' in the court of public opinion for *everything* that occurs on their watch... things such as the economy....

When, in actuality, President's have little to do with things such as the business cycle. Never-the-less, they do get the credit or the blame for events that they couldn't possibly control... simply because they occurred during their Presidential terms.

It's a 'grand old American tradition' to blame or credit the guy at the top.
