Spin control swings into action. Whatever the story that is allowed to be released, you can always be sure the real story is even more serious, a la Enron. They called this trick the "modified limited hangout" back in Nixon's time, where you only release what you know will be found out, and furiously figure out ways to spin it off in the safest direction possible. Here's an even more experienced spinner, saying, gee, it must have been spies in the FBI, again, darn it. Peggy "spinmissus" Noonan, in the WSJ today: "...Were there spies in the FBI helping out the other side? What political influences may have dictated or affected their decisions? Why did the FBI ignore all the information coming in from French intelligence, from Phoenix, from Minneapolis, from Oklahoma? There are those who say sure, the picture is always clear in hindsight.
