Steak & Shake originated where I live. About 20 years ago the company was bought and some of the operations moved. I remember a guy who had been cleaning out the warehouse had found the original recipe under a loose board in the floor. I haven't a clue to who might have that recipe now but it starts with 8 pounds of lard.
